MCP rich barons will loot Malawi, warns Chisa Mbele

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera’s rich friends he has put at near himself will plunder the country’s meagre resources for self gratification, businessman and social media commentator Joshua Chisa Mbele has claimed.

Chisa Mbele, who is UTM Party member, writing on his Facebook page under the title “Reading my Palms…” said corruption will worsen if Chakwera is elected just as it did during Joyce Banda’s regime.

But  Chakwera said if elected president of the country he will exorcise the demon of  rampant theft, “which has paralysed the country’s economy”.

However, free talking Chisa Mbele says: “MCP tenure in State House will be very complicated. Chakwera will have to strike a balance between powerful rich friends and ordinary poor Malawians in rural areas, the bedrock of Malawi’s economy without leaving behind the middle-class. Self-made entrepreneurs. Golden eggs. “

He continued: “To put Malawi on development trajectory, he will need to undertake massive public infrastructure development program. That means massive public expenditure. Both foreign and  domestic debt will rise. Deficit will widen. Most likely Kwacha will depreciate further. In short-term, life will be difficult.”

Chiza Mbele wrote: “Here is what will be worse. His rich friends who have propped him up will demand to be rewarded. They will get greedy. They will want to be everywhere. They will pull strings.

“We will have the President who won’t make bold decisions for the poor because his interests will be dictated by corrupt corporate world.

“We saw it with Bingu wa Mutharika.  [Leston] Mulli was effectively Malawi Government.

“They will want to be Mota Engil of MCP time in government. Most likely corruption will worsen. Racketeering, money laundering and grand state-tender corruption will taint MCP government.

“That’s the flip-side of those people who are throwing money at MCP today. That’s why acknowledgement of Sidik Mia sponsorship today must send cold shivers down your spine. What about those in the Western outskirt of Lilongwe?”

Since the Constitutional Court ruling for Malawi to hold fresh elections in 150 days from the day of ruling February 3 2020, MCP and UTM—whose leaders were the petitioners in the case— have been holding political rallies throughout the country  counting down to fresh voting.

  8. This is the whole reason I want Chakwera. I want to test his reasoning being a pastor without blamished record. I have the confidence that the guy loves Malawi.

Can a pastor stay mute when his Msundwe followers ransacked a nearby hatchery and stole chickens, when they stoned a policeman to death, when they blocked lorries fully loaded with cement and emptied it in stealing, when they were loaded in trucks to town during demonstrations to break Shops and steal ….. .. he only opened his mouth when women at Msundwe were allegedly raped. And thus the Pastor you people will vote for having a deficiency in that critical part of impartial leadership?

      1. APM and DPP kept quiet and has remained quiet when a police officer was butchered by DPP thugs at Goliat in Thyolo. He has remained when some policemen are allegedly reported to have been raped and defiled women at Nsundwe. APM is will go down in history as president who presided over massive looting in Malawi. He even participates himself, remember the PI saga?

  13. So imagine the unlikely event of UTM winning which is highly unlikely ofcourse the Masangwi’s will not loot? The Ngalande’s will not loot??? The Kaliyati’s will not loot??? UTM vomelani kut MCP is very very big than UTM. Imagine the 50+1 inu nu race simungapezekemo as the re run izakhala ya MCP and DPP. So u better just go kukapepesa kwa adadi anu ku DPP akulandileni

    Every party leader in every country is surrounded by so called friends that are rich.

    Corruption in every country is getting generally worse bar a very few handful of countries.

    It doesn’t change the fact that corruption is getting worse either way after the new fresh reruns of presidential elections. Whoever that takes the mantle will have to payback the sponsors.

    Is MR Mbele suggesting we are better of with DPP then? 🤔

With looting or no looting MCP will carry the day .As we approach 2020 fresh Elections NYASATIMES has become a UTM weapon to destroy MCP using CHISA MBELE articles .MCP is the game changer and will get over 60 percent of national vote with ATUPELE STAYING OUT OF RACE to give support to CHAKWERA beware of EASTERN REGION VOTES this time around.

  17. Crocodile tears Mr. Mbele. You talk about rich barons in MCP but you don’t tell us how UTM, which started from nowhere, was able to put up a grand fight in the May 21 election. Where did the party get the money? I will tell you. From RICH BARONS.

    That said, all your assertions about MCP are theoretical since the post democracy MCP has not been given a chance to form a government as a result of rigging.

  19. Unfortunately politics and economics cross paths in all countries and more so in poor countries. The best way to avoid this scenario is to have strong SOEs especially..Malawi Construction Company Ltd that will replace Mota in Mw to speed up infranstructure development in all districts.

    1. No presidential candidate wants to improve Malawians’ welfare, they want to help their friends, relatives and sympathisers. They have nothing to do with poor Malawians. “Unless we separate looters from hardworking Malawians, the next generation of Malawian youths will think looting is a career”.
      Barons are in our political parties because they want to loot (Govt tenders, procurement, supplies). In short they want businesses from Govt and they can ONLY get businesses from Govt if they are connected. Simple. These people are coming from UDF, DPP (Bingu), PP and DPP (APM) again. They want us to pay taxes so that they are able to loot from the national purse (Treasury). Kodi awa si akuchokera kwa Masiteni kuja?

      1. Nanunso, what did your Kamuzu do apart from wasting resources for his special branch police for his own security? He was so coward that he ruled with fear for the whole 31 years. All the little he did was done from 1967 to 1975. From 1976 to 1993, there was no tangible development taking place apart from kutilalatira.
