MCP secretary general says not in talking terms with party president

Main opposition Malawi Congress Party secretary general Gustave Kaliwo says he is not in talking terms with party president Lazarus Chakwera since an official memo which criticised the president on his handling of party matters was leaked to the social media a month ago.

“He has not talked to me since I wrrote him, advising him to follow party rules and procedures when handling party matters,” said the soft spoken Kaliwo.

He however said the two top party officials will use party systems to resolve the issue.

Among others, Kaliwo, a lawyer by profession, questioned why Chakwera fired and suspended top party officials before hearing their side of the story as natural justice demands.

Chakwera fired Felix Jumbe and Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma and suspended Jessie Kabwila and Joseph Njobvuyalema on various alleged offences.

Kaliwo also wondered why Sidik Mia, who is not a party member, was replacing party structures in the south without the blessings of the party.
