MCP the only trusted party- Gustave Kaliwo
Voting for “anything else” for Malawi Presidency than the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is tantamount to giving or voting for next bunch of looters, MCP Secretary General Gustave Kaliwo said.
“If you look at all the parties on offer, and all the contestants, you will agree that only one party stands out as different and this is the Malawi Congress Party (MCP),” said Kaliwo.
Kaliwo further said although politics is said be a game of numbers, integrity has been MCP’s catch word and “we have refused to boost our numbers and bank accounts by consorting with suspect characters.”
“We want to win to serve Malawi yes; but we do not want to win on May 20 so that we can become or groom the next bunch of looters.
“Therefore a vote for MCP on May 20 is a vote you can rest assured will end corruption, and fighting corruption in deeds is my passion as a former prosecutor,” he claims.
He added “the MCP’s zero tolerance to corruption is why, when appointed Secretary General, I did not hesitate but accepted and invested my efforts towards seeing to that MCP is party capable
of not only winning but governing with integrity.”
KalIwo observed that next Tuesday’s elections are about choosing either continuity in terms of corruption, nepotism and cronyism or voting for integrity.
He said while many Malawians are faced with a hand to mouth syndrome, a few – the ruling class or those connected to them – have amassed obscene wealth, despite the endemic poverty.
“If you have been alert on the extravagance that some of us have displayed in this campaign: taunting you (and the poor) with our riches, by now you can assess how much so and so is worth,” Kaliwo said.
The MCP SG further said corruption, inequality, cronyism are the reason the country’s public services is challenged, social services poorly funded, and infrastructure, deteriorating.
“I do not want to dwell only on “cash gate” and “jet gate” because these are not the only avenues through which our resources have been plundered,” he pointed out.
