MCP to build more teacher colleges in north, Mzuni was rushed into Uni – Chakwera

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarous Chakwera  has said Mzuzu University (Mzuni) is currently struggling financially and materially because some politicians rushed it into a tertiary institution to appease people of the north.

Chakwera said Mzuni was constructed by its former leader Hastings Kamuzu Banda initially as a demonstration school and part of it a Teachers Training college(TTC) for the north and did not deserve to be a University.

He said that is why students are always in the streets protesting its poor administration because it has no support to maintain the standards.

Chakwera said when his government assumes power on May 20, it will build better TTCs to meet the needs and serve the training teachers better as they now struggle due to shortage of colleges.

He was speaking on Sunday at the Mzuzu upper stadium in the Northern Region where he staged a political rally aimed at wooing people to vote for him as Malawi president and usher in MCP structures come May 20 polls this year.

But Chakwera stressed that for this to be achieved, there is need for the people to vote for him and their  Mzuzu city parliamentary candidate Bernard Mtawali in large numbers come the polling day.
