MCP-UTM alliance officials meet police over escalating electoral violence

Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) officials on Tuesday met police officers in Blantyre to complain over escalating political violence in the south.

Kunkuyu: Met police

The MCP officials cited the political violence at registration centres Mulanje and Thyolo, among other areas.

They are pointing fingers at the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as perpetrators, an allegation vehemently denied by the ruling party.

MCP’s director of Campaign Moses Kunkuyu led the delegation to the southern region police headquarters.

“We have reached a page that looks new than the page we were before,” said Kunkuyu after meeting the police commissioner for the south.

He could however not say he was satisfied with the responses.

Southern region police spokesperson Ramsy Mushani said the police heard all the complaints from the MCP.
