The main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) aspirant Member of Parliament for Mangochi Monkey Bay Constituency, Gerald Kazembe has pledged to donate his entire salary towards constituency development once elected into power.
He made the vow on Saturday during a political rally held at Masasa Village in Monkey Bay soon after donating assorted items to patients and guardians at Monkey Community hospital.
Kazembe who has become the first aspirant MP to demand “zero salary” said he will be man of the people and development is in his DNA.
“I joined politics not to enrich myself as some politicians are doing but I want to bring about development to Monkey Bay constituency therefore l promise you that once elected as Member of Parliament I will donate my entire salary towards the development constituency,” said Kazembe
Members of parliament in the country receives K1.5 million every mouth (about 90 Million Kwacha for five years).
In his 20 minutes address, Kazembe also outlined vision for Mangochi Monkey Bay starting from the construction of school blocks, hospitals and upgrading of roads which according to him will help to attract tourist thereby boosting economy of the country.
“When voted into power come May, 2019 polls I will transform Mangochi Monkey-Bay Constituency like nobody’s business.
‘It pains me to see over one hundred pupils in one class room and my first assignment once voted will be to construct school blocks so as to improve education standards in the country,” promised Kazembe.
He also urged people in the constituency to register in their large masses in the on-going voters registrations exercise for them to stand a chance to elect leaders of their choice.
Taking her turn, Group Village Head Nsumbi who is under Senior Chief Nankumba said what they need is ‘nothing’ but development in the area.
Recently, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Mangochi-Monkey Bay, Ralph Pachalo Jooma declared the constituency as ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) political bedroom.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
