MEC casts doubt over registering 9 million voters
Pollster, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has cast doubt that it would register the targeted nine million Malawians as voters ahead of the May polls.
MEC commissioner Jean Mathanga said the commission has so far registered six million voters in the past seven phases of the voter registration exercise.
“With this figure, it is a tall order to think that we can meet the nine million target,” she said.
The seventh phase of the registration exercise has so far registered 735000 people, according to Mathanga.
The phase included districts of Karonga, Rumphi, Machinga and Choradzulu.
Mathanga said more women registered in the voter registration exercise in the districts than men.
The next phase of the voter registration exercise shall include Nkhata Bay, Likoma, Mzimba and Mzuzu City.

Start the discussion…you can repeat civic education and registration in all phases
Mrs Mathanga and Dr Ansah, how many voters have you registered in Mozambique through the lost but found machine? Who are you trying to hoodwink when you say nothing has been tampered with? When was the machine stolen? Why didn’t MEC release a press release on that very important matter when the machine got stolen? If the data in the stolen machine was not tampered how do we beieve when your office is not informing us on things like what data were contained in it before it was stolen and what is there now? Mfiti yayikazi ndi yoooopsa zoooooooooooona! “Kooooooooomatu… Read more »
