MEC closes by-elections campaign: Updated

Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) says campaign for by-elections in three constituencies in Mangochi and Phalombe closed on Sunday  morning .

Kachale: Campaigning beyond the prescribed time attracts punishment

MEC  chairperson Chifundo Kachale has warned candidates and political parties that campaigning beyond the official time would be illegal.

“Campaigning beyond the prescribed time attracts punishment,” he said.

Kachale said all ballot papers will be delivered to the constituencies on Sunday.

Kachale on Friday led a delegation which went to Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe to witness the arrival of ballot papers for the December 15 by-elections in Mangochi and Phalombe whose initial 2019 parliamentary elections results were a legal battle in the High Court.

The by-elections are scheduled to take place in Phalombe North, Mangochi North East and Mangochi West constituencies.
