Presiding over the opening, Local Government Minister Ben Phiri, who is also the area’s Member of Parliament, praised the Trust as a genuine partner that has carried out several projects across the country.

He warned that government would act firmly against vandals and those involved in drug pilferage.

Press Trustee Engineer Wilson Chirwa said the health post would ease the long journey residents had been making to reach primary care.

Director of Health and Social Services Dr Mirriam Jere said the facility was crucial for children and women, serving a catchment population of 20,000.

Its services include family planning, child growth monitoring, under-five care, and antenatal and postnatal care.

Senior Chief Nchiramwera welcomed the project, saying it would reduce the distance residents travel to the district hospital.

He urged his subjects to guard against vandalism and theft of medical supplies.
