One contestant will not be in the finals of the 2011 Miss Malawi beauty pageant because she was sent packing for having a child, which is against the rules of the competition.

Nyasa Times understands that the girl was disqualified before going into boot camp, which started on Tuesday in Lilongwe.

“They [organizers] found out that she had a baby and they disqualified her before camp,” said an inside source.

However, the organizers, Artistic Agency, through their marketing executive Mable Banda, have denied the assertions.

“That’s not true, we have not disqualified anyone and we don’t have any girl who has a baby among us,” said Banda a phone interview with Nyasa Times from the capital city.

She added: “We analyzed all the girls even before they made it into the competition because our competition does not allow contestants who have babies.”

Banda, on the other hand, disclosed that out of the 24 girls that qualified for the final, one has excused herself because of school.

“There’s a girl named Diana (Msoma) who has pulled out because she is going to China for school, she will be there for a year,” she said.

Also Mphatso Chiwaula from Blantyre has pulled out because of school.

Banda stated that the organizers were satisfied with the crop of girls who are in camp and that “their performances are perfect”.

The pageant contestants are; Mavis Ngulube, Kate Maseko, Pamela Mazengera, Martha Alice Banda and Zindaba Lungu from the Southern region.

From central region: Tapiwa Mayuni, Camilla Jussab, Esther Ravat, Mayamiko Mussa, Nelly Kilembe and Rachel Mkandawire.

The Northern Region: Suzan Mtenga, Domoni Martha Banda and Twapasha Kamwambe.

The grand finale of the Miss Malawi 2011 competition will take place at Sunbird Capital Hotel in the capital city on 23 December and the girls are expected to be in camp for two weeks.

While in the boot camp, the girls will have tasks, workshops with different companies and organisations.

On Monday, they are expected to meet the First Lady Callista Mutharika, who will be guest of honour at the final event.
