Miss Malawi leaves for China for Miss World 2012

The reigning Miss Malawi, Susan Mtegha, on Monday left the country for Mongolia, China, where she will be competing in the Miss World 2012.

The world beauty pageant is scheduled to take place on August 18 and has over 100 participants, expected to start arriving in the host city on Wednesday.

Confirming Mtegha’s departure, Tadala Chakhaza of Artistic Agency, organisers of Miss Malawi, wrote on her Facebook page Monday afternoon “Miss Malawi has just taken off.”

The country’s beauty queen, 24, left the country aboard South African Airways, according to Chakhaza, as she went on further to say, “Thanks to South African airlines for updating her to business class.”

Meanwhile, Malawi’s fashion designer, Lilly Alfonso, has designed the main dress of the night to be worn by the beauty queen from the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’ at the world pageant.

Mtegha was crowned Miss Malawi last December and she will be the fourth model represent the nation at the World beauty pageant, after Elizabeth Pulu (2001), Rachael Landson (2005) and Ella Kabambe (2010).

In this year’s Miss World, Africa will be represented by 20 countries.

The reigning world queen is Ivian Sarcos from Venezuela.
