Miss Malawi pageant on course – organisers
The organizers of this year’s Miss Malawi beauty pageant has assured the nation the contest is still on course with Blantyre auditions slated for this weekend.
Controversy rocked the pageantry a couple of weeks ago when one of the sponsors, Mnena Gaming, pulled out following disagreement on the voting process the gaming company wanted to introduce.
Mnena Gaming pledged a brand new BMW car for the winner wanted the nation to participate in voting for Miss Malawi through SMSs, which was a peculiar development to the objectives of Miss Malawi.
In an interview with Nyasa Times, this year’s organizers Artistic Agency disclosed that nothing had changed in regards to the preparations for the beauty contest despite the pull out of the top prize.
“The problem with the voting system was that some of the girls participating were using people to vote for them and the development was not fit for Miss Malawi.
“It was a first time voting being introduced to the world of beauty pageant worldwide and we felt that kills the real essence of having Miss Malawi. But I can assure people that we are progressing and the event will take place as initially planned,” said Vitu Kamanga of Artistic Agency.
Kamanga said auditions for southern region will take place on Saturday 8th October at Mount Soche from morning to afternoon.
“We want to build and restore the image of Miss Malawi. Therefore we will make sure we follow the real objectives designed for the pageant,” Kamanga said.
The reigning Miss Malawi is Faith Chibale.
