More Parliament officials face police interrogation

Malawi Police wants more officials from parliament to be questioned and that arrests are likely to be effected to some on wrongful self-enrichment, Nyasa Times understands.

This comes in the wake of Clerk of Parliament Matilda Katopola appearing  at National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe before Fiscal Police alongside Principal Clerk Assistant Jeffrey Mwenyeheli and Stores keeper a Mr. F. Kapalamula.

The official were quizzed on many procurement irregularities including the infamous Monick trends, a firm that Katopola owns, which was embroiled in procurement and supply abnormality in 2008.

Katopola: Face charges

“We have launched investigations at Parliament into alleged crimes. We have a strong case to believe that a crime was committed,” disclosed the Fiscal Police officer.

The Parliamentary Service Commission and the National Audit Office had investigated Katopola and cleared her after they found that mis-procurement involved K86,997 only.

Nyasa Times has however gathered that more people will summoned for questioning by the police and these include Rex Moyo the former director of finance and administration and Dyton Milanzie former technical assistant to the Clerk of parliament (both posts no longer exists as they were scrapped off)

Another person to be to be quizzed is the former IT boss Madalo khoza.

Both Khoza and Moyo have since left Parliament after they were both frustrated until they resigned.
