Moslem leader quashes anti-female sentiments: Praises JB

The Chairman of the Revival of the Islamic Heritage Society, African Continent, State of Kuwait, Jassim Mohammed Ai-Einati has said statements from some quarters who cite the Qu’ran that women cannot made good leaders are due to ignorance of Islamic teachings.

”We have just elected many female Members of Parliament in Kuwait, which proves wrong the mentality against female leadership among some quarters here,” said Mohammed Al-Einati.

He said if Islam does not encourage women to be leaders Kuwaitis would not have elected women to Parliament.

He said he had come to Malawi to establish a strong foundation with Malawi on how his organisation can work together with Malawi on various development projects.

Mohammed Ai-Einati was speaking when he made a courtesy call on State President Joyce Banda at Sanjika Palace today.

The Moslem leader who was accompanied by members of the Moslem Association of Malawi, said those opposed to female leadership are just ignorant of the teachings of Isam.

“My job is also to teach real Islam to people on the African continent so that they can be reliable and knowledgeable of Islamic teachings,” he said.

Mohammed Ai-Einati applauded President Banda for her vision to develop Malawi and for the projects she is already implementing on livestock, irrigation farming, drilling of boreholes, and empowering the people on mobility. He said these are also some of the projects he had in mind that his organisation can work on in Malawi.

On her part, President Banda applauded Kuwait for the many development projects it is implementing in Malawi.

She cited Direct Aid which is working in Malawi on various projects and the aid the Government of Kuwait will provide through the construction of the Lirangwe-Zomba-Machinga road whose contract the two governments had already signed.

She said Kuwait is a small country in terms of size and even economy when compared to other Middle East countries but was keen to assist other countries. She asked Malawians to emulate this spirit of assisting one another.

The President also explained to Al-Einati the need to empower the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) so that it develops capacity to help more people in the country through the structures MAM already has.
