Moyale, Red Lions adamant on FAM’s Pres Cup last-four fixture change
Two Malawi’s soldier football out-fits, Moyale Barracks and Red Lions have turned down Football Association of Malawi’s (FAM) alleged correction in the Presidential Cup semi-finals fixture which was made at the eleventh hour.
In a draw, which was conducted by FAM, Moyale Barracks was supposed to tussle with Big Bullets in Mzuzu while Red Lions was scheduled to face Escom United.
However, on Monday, July 16, FAM announced that there was an anomaly in the fixtures which needed to be corrected so that Moyale Barracks should meet Red Lions in Zomba while Big Bullets should host Escom United at the giant Kamuzu Stadium.
FAM’s Competitions Manager, Casper Jangale apologized to the teams for the error and accepted the blame.
“We must admit that there was an error earlier on, and we must correct it here that Moyale is supposed to meet Red Lions while Big Bullets will take on Escom United. We apologize for everything and our plea is for all concerned to accept our apology,” said Jangale.
However, Moyale Barracks Team Manager, Kazizwa Banda has turned down FAM’s apology by insisting that the Mzuzu based side will take on Big Bullets at the Mzuzu Stadium.
Banda quizzed why FAM changed the fixture all of a sudden yet all in the entire draw indicated that Moyale would meet Bullets.
“Why should they change the draw at the eleventh hour? We are not travelling to Zomba because what we know is that we are meeting Bullets in Mzuzu,” said Banda.
Concurring with Banda was Red Lions coach, Nicolas Mhango.
Mhango said it was surprising that FAM was contradicting itself because the draw was conducted by themselves.
“Why should they change the fixture which was done by themselves in full view of the teams and the media?” questioned Mhango.
