MP for Zomba Chisi dies: Mangulenje of DPP

A dark cloud has engulfed Malwi’s old capital city, Zomba following the death of  ruling Democratic Peogressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Zomba Chisi constituency Peter Chizalo Mangulenje.

The Parliamentarian died Wednesday September 23 ,2015 at Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre after a short illness, Zomba District Commissioner (DC) Benet Nkasala has confirmed with sadness.

National Assembly spokesperson, Leonard Mengezi, said the burial will be held on Friday in Zomba.

“Tentatively the burial will be on Friday, but we will issue a statement tomorrow [Thursday] about the burial arrangements. The body will be taken to his home village from College of Medicine tomorrow,” he said.

Late Mangulenje became member of parliament for the area in 2009. He was the only DPP parliamentarian who retained his seat during the 2014 tripartite polls in Zomba.

In the event of death, the Malawi Electoral Commission which recently conducted by-elections for ward councillors will have to hold by elections for the Zomba Chisi constituency.
