Speaking in parliament when he moved the motion on proper disposal of waste, Lowe explained that the city needs to be clean to provide a conducive to its citizen.

He said that he has observed that a lot of people are just disposing waste anyhow without considering how this will change the appearance of the city, through improper disposal of waste.

“There is pollution of water as well as air when the waste  has been dump to rivers and dumping sites which are causing a lot of health problems and also polluting the land in the country,”  Lowe said.

He explained that the dump sites are not safe and secure because we found people taking the waste products from the dumping area to their various places and use them for other things and after they do not dispose them to the right place.

“Malawi does not have waste management law which is making it a problem when it comes to management disposal of waste we are supposed to come up with laws and enforcements that will help us to overcome these challenges, “Lowe observed.

“we are trying our best to provide the conducive environment to the nation through different ways and am sure that we will reach that point where waste will be disposed at one place and make a different Malawi,” he said.

Apart from corruption, is anything working properly in Malawi? Those responsible always look to blame someone else… but no progress. How long has Malawi been independent…?

By the way has MCP paid all the city rates in arrears that accumulated over the years after this issue was raised on this site? That money could help a lot. So the government has no laws on waste management yet mumangoti pwhi mnyumbamo kudya ma allowance zaka zonzezi? So how do you expect the government to resolve this issue in the absence of this law? The law would help to arrest those in contravention.
I however I believe the city council can develop their own by laws to solve these challenges. Malawiiiiiiii! Kkkkkkk!

Kamuzu is a good reason why this country has stagnated. He never placed such laws and other good laws as he was a law unto himself. He threatened, shouted, fired and hired, tortured, killed and left no foundation for future development. He was a one man Farmer and thus why all his farms are almost dilapidated. Nothing at Kapiri, Mkanda, Chimwankango, Machinga and in Ntaja.

I thought BEAM took over from City Assembler? Citizens pay City Rates where our money go? MR MP ask City Assembly what they do with our money. And ask BEAM why Lilongwe a Capital City is not clean? What is the jobbet of Mayor in Lilongwe? APM lives in LL does he not see this? When a young Mayor of Blantyre started cleaning and make The city then greed Muntjarika formed BEAM to enrich his own wife. Most First Ladies work freely. Stealing and self enriching is a sickness of Malawi leaders. That is why we will never develope. We… Read more »

Proper waste management in the Capital city can only be achieved if there is no deviation of funds to party Gulus. While the city garbage/refuse collecting trucks lack fuel the authorities are shielding an accounts clerk who has swindled one million kwacha meant for wages of sweepers, one market clerk went away with a whole cash safe containing undisclosed cash during the inferno of the main market, They have paid 35 million to a DPP governor for unknown job. Can Police and ACB intervine.
