MPs irked with cancellation of committee meetings: Malawi govt in travel controls
Members of Parliament from various committees who were scheduled to meet and discuss various issues of national importance, have expressed concern over the way the acting clerk of parliament (ACOP) has handled himself in cancellation of the committee meetings.

Various members of Parliament who spoke to Nyasa Times said they are not happy with the cancellation of the meetings due to lack of funding.
“There are a lot of issues which we need to seriously discuss as committees. I believe that the ACOP could have left the meetings to continue even without money and refund the MPs later on,” said one lawmaker.
The committees were scheduled to meet on Monday 17 November,2014.
Some of the committees which were scheduled to meet include Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Statutory Committee, Public Appointments Committee(PAC) State Enterprise and Health Committee.
According to the communication sent via short service message from mobile phone system read, ” Hon MP kindly be informed that the committee meetings scheduled for next week (Monday) have been postponed till further notice due to non funding.”
Malawi government is facing financial difficulties and has since restricted the number of external travels by all government officials to three in every financial year.
Chief Secretary to the Government, George Mkondiwa, in a letter dated November 7 2014 also addressed to Clerk of Parliament, chief executive officers of parastatals, heads of subvented organisations, all chief executive officers, mayors, city chairpersons, municipal, town and district councils limted external travel to three in a financial year.
Government has also stopped sponsoring external training especially if they can be attained locally.

Bravo APM. They should hold their meetings next year. No funds no meetings. Simple!!

Ukuona ngati boma ndi estate yoti utha kugula mbewu tsiku limodzi eti?
MPs are angry not because they had anything tangible to discuss that could have benefitted Malawians but rather angling for the festive season so that they can make money to spend then. Looking at the calibre of our MPs I doubt it if we need these ceremonial committees after all wasnt it one of their committees that approved a person for a diplomatic posting when they clearly acknowledged that they were lacking in qualifications?
I desire to see a Malawi that has legislative representatives with a patriotic sense of duty. I desire to see a Malawi where our members of Parliament are reminded that their duty is to serve and not to be served. If indeed they were honourable ladies and gentlemen, would they not have said we will hold these meetings to seek solutions for the betterment of the nation as a whole regardless of the lack of funding as change begins with us. I desire to see politicians of a difference who seek to rebuild Malawi and not milk it further. Alas, my beloved country we are just beginning to experience the birthing pains of turmoil, chaos, desolation, hunger, sickness and despair….sadly it will be the poor man, you and I who will feel it most!
MK24Million of taxpayers money that the governmaent ” loaned” you for doing nothing was not enough???? You greedy pigs!!!!
To get allowances for nothing, just sitting like observers in the parliament. Some of them have never uttered a word since their election.
Congratulations ACOP these useless motherfuckers are a waste of resources. Almost all committee meetings are useless just used as vehicles for stealing funds. The Public Appointments Committee is the most useless of the lot. I dont know why they even bother to interview candidates when they have no ifea how to propely determine suitability.
Mngoti Peter ndi boma lake la dpp zamkanika alibe chochita. Amadzitama kuti akhoza kuyendetsa boma without the hand of the donors. Ma Bricks aja amanena ali kuti pano? Mps committee meetings are part of parliamentary proceedings hence agreat need for them to meet and get allowances as prevealedged. Blame should go to K92 bil cashgate by the dpp govt
EXECUTIVE Kuchita mantha ndi LEGISLATURE. Ndipo simunati. Parliament yake si imeneyi. Akudziwa kuti akakhala m’madzi. Nanga si boma langoima, popanda chochitika.
How about conference calls. Have you ever heard of that???? May be not coz our MPs are so retarded. You can have a committee meeting in your pajamas in the comfort of your home . All you need is a phone. I know this wont sit well with these retards coz all they want is allowances.
92 bill4on at work tilira
Much as we appreciate that they were to discuss issues of national importance, koma ngati ndalama kulibe, there is nothing that can be done, adikire boma likazapeza ndalama (that is their own parliamentary language akamayankha mafunso a anthu ofuna chitukuko mu madera mwawo). Prudence is very crucial, if there is no momey, don’t spend!! These guys should have known better that the economic situation is dire currently. Anthu anaba ndalama zambiri za boma, azungu anasiya kuthandiza dziko lino and now there is high flying inflation leading to high cost of living. As I speak now, civil servants are back to square one. Even before the first increased salary has been received, the Kwacha has tumbled to the extent that all the increment has been erased. poor civil servant has a higher, but useless salary!!! May God help Malawi!! Boma likuyesera kukokera by raising fees of different services, milking the very thin cow, komabe sizikukwana, ndiye ena azifuna ma sitting allowances, achani? Kudzikonda bwanji anthu inu!!!
I used to hate the commitee meetings but You Malawians you could have appreciated Menyani,Kamlepo Kalua and the whole of the PAC had it been that u were interested to go and see for yourselves what these honorouble guys are doing! These hon. guys mean business!
Am failing to understand how these experts in running government affairs are failing to run this country. Bola clueless government yomwe ija. Chitsime chimaoneka kuya chikaphwa zoonadi.
Kufuna kukangodya ndalama. Dont allow these small goats. They are wasteful
THEY JUST WANT TO GET FREE ALLOWANCES!! AWACHITA BWINO ANTHUWA!! THEY SHOULD FOCUS ON WORKING FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF MALAWI INSTEAD OF FISHING FOR COMMITTEE MEETINGS WHERE THEY JUST GET HAND OUTS!! SIS MAN!!
Ma meetings anu azatheka “makasu” (Civil servants) akazalandira zawo. Apo bi munya simunati
Simunati afana mudziwanso inu mumati muzidya nokha ife tikufasiting’a.
In fact Committee meetings are mostly fund raising ventures for MP’s because when you look at their programmes same amount work they plan to do for a whole week can actually take them only 2 days if they were serious and some of it is even not that urgent but they just want to sit for the sake of sitting may be with the exception of commitees such as PAC. Absenteism is also very high.
This is a working day, why do you need allowances? The whole set up is stupid. You work to serve the people of Malawi and not the other way round. We hear a lot of these meetings and not much outputs. The outputs we tend to “see” are you guys talking badly of the Other Parties. We need to see action guys, then may be we can start sympathising – which I very much doubt anyway
Zinthu zinazi you can start setting examples. Malawi is in deed poverty, cost of living is raising by the day, you took loans to be paid by Malawians, donor aid is suspended, we are not exporting and yet, you our own elected MPs are demanding allowances for a normal day’s work.
Eti bwanji pa menepo?
Apa Pali Mavuta-APM. Munasankha nokha osalira mbava inu. You thought of stomach by awarding yourself 24 million & now cry over allowances when Makawians are languishing in stinking poverty . Foolish MPs. When it comes to civil servants you are mum. Foolish thieves idiots
Tough times!!!!! A pitala munya nazo!!!!! I can smell another cardiac arrest!!!!!!gvt is serious business!!!!this old embicile wont go far!!!!!!!!
Akulu inu muli ndi vuto. You must be satanic. why hate the President so much. It is u who is get a heart attack. Wakufa sadziwika.
Let them do it for free if they really would like to meet for the sake of Malawians, otherwise mkwiyowo ndi ma allowance ndi amene akupweteka!!
MPs wanted to discuss something of “national importance”. Hahahahahaha. Very funny! Stop it!
Kikikiki hahahaha malawi yanga
I am sorry my beloved MPs !!!! Good news that the government is cutting down useless expenses!!! Well done!!!!!
Being a president does not mean just sitting on a comfee chair and poop ,you got to think and come up with strategies but I do understand when the brain has reached that stage when you cant think why do you want to be a leader then??? Just to be on a motercade???
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!
Useless committees any way. You are failing to challenge the govt on many issues. Now the govt is finishing you on the pretext of lack of funds!!!
If the committees were popular with the people or be seen to be effective, even the govt would have been forced to find some money for them. But they are not!!!
MWANYA NAZO AKUBA INU
