The MP’s signed a nutritional pledge in the capital Lilongwe to recognize the critical role of nutrition in decreasing deaths and increasing health education outcomes and economic growth.

Speaking after signing the pledge, Parliamentary Chairperson for Health and Nutrition, Deus Banda, said he is happy that the country’s legislatures have joined the global movement as the champions of nutrition.

“As champions, we will make sure to lobby for more funding and mainstreaming of nutrition in sectors of Agriculture, Health, education and Gender among others,” he said.

He said, increased funding levels towards nutrition will help save lives thereby having a health and productive nation.

However, in their pledge, they said, they will demonstrate community support for prioritizing nutrition across sectors and also build support and visibility needed to elevate nutrition on national and district level agenda in the lead up to the Nutrition for Growth Summit in Rio, Brazil in 2016.
