Msowoya declares interest to be MCP running-mate: Kaliwo, Kabwila back Chakwera-Msowoya pair
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) embattled secretary general Gustave Kaliwo on Sunday joined the party’s vice president Richard Msowoya at a political rally in Mzimba just a week after wealthy businessman Sidik Mia joined the party.

Party ‘rebels’ including Jessie Kabwila were in attendance at the rally held at Chimkusa ground amid heightened speculation that MCP president Lazarus Chakwera would drop Msowoya as running mate in the 2019 election and opt for Mia.
Conspicously missing at the rally were national executive committee members of the party aligned to Chakwera whose decision to take Mia into the party has proved to be divisive.
Msowoya, who is also MCP first vice president and Karonga Nyungwe member of parliament (MP) , said he was happy that Kaliwo attended his rally and is supporting him.
“Even in the church the pastor is always comfortable when he is working with the session clerk because he is the dictionary of the church,” said Msowoya who was indirectly attacking Chakwera who has been holding rallies alone without the party SG.
Msowoya declared that he will remain Chakwera’s running mate in 2019 elections despite fevered speculation that Mia would be opted for that.
“Chakwera is a better candidate to lead Malawi in 2019 and I also qualify to be his deputy so support me so that I and Chakwera lead MCP into government come 2019 elections,” said Msowoya.
Declared Msowoya: “Malawi Congress Party has Dr Chakwera, a person I know can run the country well. MCP has a vice-president Richard Msowoya and you know how I work.
“So, please give us a chance, help me, so that Chakwera and I get into government and run it in a way that people will feel good about their country.”
He continued:“It is not simple for people who just meet in a house to run government because they take it like a club, and because it is a club, they just share government money. MCP does not belong to one person.”
And Kabwila said she back the ticket of Chakwera and Msowoya, saying they are “competent leaders.”
“In MCP we go to a convention and Richard Msowoya was elected during a convention. So, for that I stand here and say, I do politics of constitutionalism and MCP says if you join us, well and good, but the positions you want to occupy are already filled,” said Kabwila.
“The pair of Chakwera and Msowoya was not bought from a store, it was formed at a convention. That must be respected,” he said.
Kaliwo said he will be going to court ti vacate an injunction which Chakwera obtained so that he can go ahead to hold a convention.
“An early convention would help us prepare well for 2019 elections,” he said.
Another notable person who attended the rally was Kasungu West MP, Alex Major.
As Msowoya, the Speaker of parliament and Kaliwo were holding the rally in Mzimba, President Peter Mutharika seemed to be sympathising with Msowoya as he told people in Mzuzu that Mia’s recent remarks in Ngabu, Chikhwawa that he would grab any position from any weak official whom he described as lebwedelebwede.
“He (Mia) should not have used such a demeaning and insulting word to the great son of the north (Msowoya). He needs great respect, people from the north deserves respect,” said Mutharika at Katoto round about as he entered Mzuzu for official duties.
A faction from the MCP has since asked Mia to apologise over his lebwedelebwede remark.
During the Mzimba rally, Msowoya and Kaliwo also welcomed Mzuzu City Mayor William Mkandawire into the MCP , saying he followed right procedures of joing the party. Mkandawire was previously People’s Party (PP) member.

Let I call a spade by its name. Starting with Mr. Msowoya, it is very pathetic that you are being misled by Kabwira and Kaliwo. Talking about your popularity in the North-you are not a cloud puller, let alone in Karonga where I come from. You cannot be compared with the likes of late Kampunga; who had a mark on the district. You are not even a match to the late Tom Chihana who was revered by the North. But because of lack of trust in him, remember how Aford faired in one of the elections in the North during his later years: miserably!!! That is to tell you point blank that no one owns the NORTH.
A word of advice to you is that; swallow your pride. Remember that in the last convention you went unopposed, so why are you shaking this time as if mpandowo ndi wamuyaya. If you will not heed to what people are commenting on social media and puff yourself up, you will end up pathetically come next elections.
Another person who perceives himself as a giant in the North is Khumbo Kachali but nope, he is not!!! Nada!!! Zero!!! No!!! I will explain why this so. Khumbo is a giant in his constituency only in Edingeni; that is where people know him and revere him. If Mr. Khumbo Kachali wants to prove his political stamina in the North or let alone Mzimba district, let him stand as an MP for Mzimba Solora where he stays and has investiments. I bet you he cannot win in that area. It is only the rural masses of Edingeni that can vote for him.
If the DPP is counting on Khumbo to do the crowd pulling job in the North, forget it: chifukwa angotafunapo zaulele; mkulu uyu nimalyera kapena achewa amati “atidyenawo”. Heed this that Mzomera Ngwira, Harry Mkandawire and others have pressed wrong buttons. They are going to fall down come 2019, even if they contest under DPP ticket. I know the North very well. One of greatest mistakes that DPP did was to send Wajeffey and wag her mouth at people of the North, “mau amene aja azamvetsa kuwawa munthu wina”
UNEJI NAMUPHALIRANI!!!
MCP,UDF,DDP,PP you are all useless thieves killers and destroyers of our beautiful country you have make Malawi to be the poorest country in world 2019 DEPECO anew party in for change Criss president 2019 we tired of you.
DEAR ALL MCP MEMBERS (CHAKWERA)
YOU GUYS YOU THINK
YOU HAVE ALREADY WON THE 2019
ELECTIONS THE SAMEWAY JOYCE
BANDA AND PP WERE THINKING & BEHAVING
MIND THIS#
PETER IS STRATEGIZING FAIRLY WELL IN
THE SOUTH THE CENTRE
AND THE NORTH
IF PETER CAN MANAGE
TO FULFILL THE PROMISES HE
DPP MADE TO THE NORTHERNERS SUCH AS
AIRPORT
MOMBERA
DPP WILL SCORE HIGHLY
IN THE NORTH WHILE YOU
ARE BUSY WITH MINOR THINGS
John Tembo thought he was going to win in 2009…to with Gwanda Chakuamba in 1999
MCP has too many problems to win an election; mmanja mwache muli magazi thoo komanso it has too many nkholokolo!
The problem with Msowoya is that he thinks he is entitled to the MCP vice presidency simply because he was loyal to Chakwera. This is enough now Mr Speaker sir, you need to demostrate that you will bring teh much needed votes to the party. It was very clear after the 2014 elections that your choice to the MCP running did NOT ring any results to MCP as a party. Actually, even yourself struggled heavily to win your parliamentary seat. MCP only got two parliamentary seats in the north. Otherwise, MCP can still manage to gets votes in the north without a candidate. PP and DPP had no candidates in the north but they much more votes than MCP. Sometimes being strong is the ability to recognise your weakness and work on them to imrpove your performance. It is undeniable fact that the Msowoya running mate was the weakest link in the MCP ticket and Chakwera doesn’t want to repeat that mistake.
I see Chakwera making the same mistake Joyce Banda former President made in her choice of running mate. She believed Gwengwe would influence people in the center to vote for her. A big miscalculation that cost her dearly. Mia is not the right political investment for Chakwera. Mia is not a political magnet because he lacks a stable constituency and political stamina to sway any meaningful support for MCP. I doubt Mia could even give MCP 30% of the lower Shire vote. For sure he will have no impact in other southern districts. MCP and Chakwera if they realistically aspire to win any election their realistic chance lies with the northern vote. Like it or don’t the truth shall never be farther than my simple perspective
John Tembo failed to use Brown Mpinganjira and Muluzi in 2009
I disagree. The North is extremely unpredictable. Unless you do not stay in the Northern Region and you have never done so throughout your life. In the North people vote using their heads. They listen more to Livingstonia Synod than politicians. Consider the checkmate that Chakufwa Chihana received in 2004. It was Gwanda Chakuwamba who ammased more votes in the North. You can’t predict how they will vote in 2019. On the other hand, people in the south and to a a large extent in Central region vote regional lines of which the worst is the south. An effort must be made to break that. You can’t compare Khumbo and Msowoya. Msowoya is an administrator, Khumbois a politician and a mobilizer of masses and that’s where Joyce Banda missed it. Even when he was at loggerheads with Mbelwa people though he would lose that constituency which he didn’t but won it massively. If it were Msowoya, he would have lost. In the North politicians are Khumbo and Tumpale Mwnefumbo.
My dear Msowoya, you will not even win the parliamentary seat in 2019 so how do we trust that you will add value to the party. While Mia is bringing numbers to the party, you are busy instigating anarchy without value. The party lost Nyungwe Ward right under your watchful eye. Just appreciate and be thankful the party made you Speaker and you will have a decent living till you die. Whether you like it or not, Mia will partner Chakwera on the ballot and another able person from the North will be our next SG. Hambani kahle!
Msowoya is not a crowd puller and thats a fact. Bringing Kabwira and Kaliwo who are critics of Chakwera wont benefit you at all. And the analogy of the session clerk is wrong because churches as institutions too have their own rules and regulations that one needs to follow. Whenever the session clerk is wrong, she or he is relieved from his duties and sometimes excommunicated. You talk as if session clerks are angels…why? Tread carefully Hon Msowoya. You are where you are because of the MCP constituents and I bet you that if you had run on another ticket Karonga central would have gone to someone else. Take it or leave it…come these 2019 elections the likes of Kabwira and Jumbe wont be MCP candidates again…they messed up…some new candidates are propping up in Salima. SO TREAD carefully…dont behave as if you are there for good. Just try harder to impress so that people should vote for you as VP again. Mia has brought competition…the ball is in your court…MCP didnt amass adequate votes from the North though you are the Vice president…
To win an election needs a plan, without plan you cant win. The running mate is the choice of the presidential candidate and what I can tell you mr Speaker is to work very hard to strengthen the party so that you and your party will win in 2019 election. Know this to win an election needs more people to vote for you and this time is very important to bring more members into the party. Don’t worry with the new members who are joining the party. You can protect to be a running mate but loose the election. Think twice bwana Msowoya.
Hon. Richard Msowoya I have so much respect for u as my party’s vice president but the way u have conducted this rally, am so much disappointed with u. Look to ur right hand side, those two are critics of ur boss. Should I conclude u are one of them? Birds of the same feathers flock together. Please the right honourable speaker do not bring more confusions or divisions in the party. U are where u are because of MCP led by Dr. Chakwera who has not told u he’s parternering with Mia or urself in 2019. Why are u not confident of urself? Work hard to win more support in the north. Kholokolo mukuyenda nazozo zikuvulalitsani and if not careful u won’t go back to parliament come May 2019.
Msoyowa you are behind all what Kabwila and Kaliwo has been doing eish, now we kno the big fish.
I feel the good position is not only in the office of VP. my fello Northerners, let us unite and support Chakwera with whoever becomes vp. Mia to me is the crwd winner
It is a lessson to supporters who just follow blindly may be it is high time they should start using there brain whening choosing there laeders
This not does not look to be intra-party democracy. By the time you realise you need to unite and fight a common enemy it will be too late. So I would like to impress upon the gurus in MCP, the gvt in waiting, to please practice politics of inclusion. The more people join the party the better. After all politics is a game of numbers.
So the KABWIRAS, MSOWOYAS and KALIWOS do not want MCP to win, you guys can you see here is a game of numbers, All this time I thought Msowoya understand that politics is a game of numbers
Trying to find an excuse to leave MCP and working with DPP. Tractor gate is what will make someone make bad decisions. The nkholokolos are agents of DPP and they have managed to associate themselves with MCP Veep. Very bad times ahead. I can see people leaving parties just to confuse people. Khumbo Kachale is another agent of DPP. His mission is to derail AFORD’s momentum in the north. Msowoya is to do the same against MCP in the same region.
If Mia is dropped it spells doom for MCP andi MCP should forge testing power ever. Chakwera got 67,000 votes in the south. Now its MCP’s chance to get 600,000 votes and whip out power DPP. But Nsowoya wants to loose again and if he maintains his seat to be speaker once more. There after vy for MCP President.. I find the position of Speaker more respectable than of VP and I believe the perks are the same. Why not give your party , as a leader ,a wide change than going for wrangles.
Dirty politics. Do you think they is hope here mwachepa nazo
MCP will not win at all they are taking politics like BAWO kkkkkk fools, Chakwera must be very carefull with these GUYS I usually call them political MAFIA’S = MSOWOYA, KABWILA, KALIWO and these other silent killers Chwe mwana chwe the HYENA kkkkkkk!!!!!!!! now listen the coming in of MIA another LOWER STATE MAFIA is the sucide bomb that will kill Chakwera and his PARTY believe me Tambala Wakuda will be roasted & will be eaten at the polling stations.
By the way, who competed with Msowoya for the Vice Presidency in 2014? How many votes did he bring to the party from the North in 2014? Now the competition is on and I support this. Positions should be competed for not only for appeasement. Go Sidik Mia. I support you.
Go ahead Msowoya. You have all the support. Mia waotcha. KKKKKKKK
The fire has just began
I wish I were Richard Msowoya.
If I were Msowoya I would not allow people who have been distabilizing the MCP to my poligical rally. And I would not give them my platform to badmouth my very leader.
If I Richard, I would disassociate myself from the disgruntled Kaliwos, Kabwiras, etc, cos associating with these people would suggest that I am part of them and have been working behind the scene fueling the tensions in MCP.
Associating with them would mean I fully condone with their agenda to destroy the current leadership
Associating with Kaliwo, Kabwira, Chatinkha just forces the current regitimate MCP leadership and all other MCP members to include you among the rest of those people being used by DPP to destroy MCP.
Associating with these people may affect your campaign for the MCP running mate as their interests may not necessarily be your interests.
I wish I were Richard Msowoya cos by now I would know that the position of running mate is an issue of numbers/votes and not bad associations with the Kaliwos who would only succeed at poisoning you.
If I were Msowoya I would withdraw and start rebuilding my backroom team that would be working around the clock to amass numbers in the north and else-where to make myself relevant and an outright choice for a runningmate, and not being used by Kalowo and Kabwira to bad-mouth the very leader who you want to partner with
I wish I were Msowoya cos I would be busy strategizing on how best I can outsmart any potential runningmates including Mia.
Unfortunately I am not Richard Msowoya.
If we are to look at active professional politics Sidik Mia is a winning candidate but if we are looking for politics of appeasement Msowoya is the candidate.
Is this politics of personal interest or interest to serve Malawians? Stop this politics of self interest and personal aggrandizement. If Hon Chakwera is the President of MCP, please let him choose who he wants to pick as his running mate. This should be done on basis of gaining votes and not just to appease somebody. If Hon Msowoya can provide votes to bring MCP back into government then let him be a running mate but if somebody else can do like wise if not better than Hon Msowoya then that person should wear the cap. Its very surprising that all over sudden Mai Kabwila and Bambo Kaliwo are with Hon Msowoya. This is a very bad development with what they were preaching in the north. Hon Msowoya is being used by the government if words said are to go by. He has no peace of mind because of tractor gate and the factor the government managed to shield people involved in this, he thinks its time to be loyal to his masters by playing a dirty game of destabilising MCP.
Let Msowoya do its part in the North and Mia do in the South and the Conversion to decide between the two. Aliyense agwire ntchito molimbika kuchigawo cha kwawo……Osati Ine ndikhala, ine ndikhala zimenezo ai. MCP ndiyabwino koma anthu ena mu MCP akufuna kuononga chipani. A kaliwo, a Kabwira ndi ena tonse tiyeni tikonde chipani chathu. Successful people build each other. They do motivate, inspire and help each other
Muthalika is the one who fuelling all these divisions in our mighty party MCP since dpp failed to convince Mia. Now DPP fears about Mia in the south and this makes MCP LANDSLIDE VICTORY COME 2019. DPP is gone in Malawi and I can foresee and prophecize Muthalika fleeing the the country leaving his children behind like Joice Banda.
leave Mia alone running mate is chosen at the right as prerogative of presidential candidate
FRANKLY SPEAKING IF NSOWOYA CAN BE DROPPED
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MCP
IS WHAT HAPPENED TO AMAYI JOYCE BANDA WITH
HER PP BY DROPPING KHUMBO FOR GWENGWE
PEOPLE OF THE NORTH

But notherners did not vote for MCP IN 2014, HOW MANY MCP MPs are in the north compared to DPP and PP. MCP NEED NUMBERS NoT names
But JB till won the North after dropping Kumhumbo, didnt she?
I think mavuto a MCP sazatha, these people are confortable being in opposition for ever
iwe generation of vipers …. Sudzanvaso iwe … lets love malawi dziko ndila tonse ili not selected few….. MCP ndichipani chopanda mwini ndi cha aliyese mdziko muno TUMBUKA MCHEWA MCHAWA ALOMWE ALL we are one…. lets build our home malawi. lets kick those politicians amene akuba…..
