Mtendere village children early Xmas treat by Airtel

Kids from Mtendere Childrens’ Village in Lumbadzi had an early Christmas treat last week, when Airtel Malawi visited the centre and donated various gifts to each of the 108 children at the village.

Apart from the gifts, the giant mobile network company offered the children a slap-up meal from KFC and other food stuffs before engaging them in various fun games.
Speaking during the feast Airtel Malawi’s customer experience director Sibusiso Nyasulu promised that the company would continue touching lives of Malawians.
“We have been involved in many other corporate social responsibilities but this time round we felt obliged to come here and celebrate Christmas with the children of Mtendere Village. We first came here in 2014 and were inspired with the stories of this place.
“During last year’s festive season, we visited Chikondi and Mphatso orphanages in Area 25. We are going to continue touching lives of Malawians,” said Nyasulu.
Amongst the items that were presented to the children and the centre were school bags, 10 sugar bales, cooking oil, notebooks and recycled sanitary pads for young girls.
Administrator of the village Gracian Chisema hailed Airtel for the gesture: “We are very grateful for what Airtel has done. We did not expect this and we just a call from Airtel that they were coming here. The donations we have received will go a long way in alleviating some of the problems that we face here,” said Chisema.
Mtendere Childrens Village was established in 1985 and looks after orphaned children and babies.
A day before the orphanage visit, Airtel conducted the first draw for Kuufura Summer Bonanza, which saw a 27-year old quarry miner from Ekwendeni Blessings Jere winning the K1 million weekly prize. Five other people also won the daily K200,000 cash prizes each.
Speaking during the draw, Airtel Marketing Director Emmanuel Kasambara said it was pleasing to see K1 million grand weekly prize going to a quarry miner.
“You have heard for yourself that the winner earns K20,000 a month from his quarry mining business. From now on, his life will be transformed, which is what we strive for at Airtel,” said Kasambara.
