Mtimaukanena off to Zimbabwe for WBC title fight
One of the country’s top female boxer Agness Mtimaukanena Mwando has left the country for Harare, Zimbabwe ahead of her WBC title fight against Zimbabwe’s Lolitha Muzeya.
Mtimaukanena and Muzeya are scheduled to fight for the Welter weight title on Friday 14 October, 2016. Speaking before departure at Chileka international airport in Blantyre on Sunday, Mwando said she will have no excuse if she loses to Muzeya on Friday.
“I have been given massive support by Malawians and the corporate. Olli Meat Limited and Beata printing solutions gave me enough support plus my promoter. I have prepared for nothing less than a win. I cannot wait to get into the ring on Friday and I don’t think she will endure my punches,” said Mtimaukanena who is married to Zimbabwe’s boxer Brian Mwando.
Speaking to Nyasa Times in a separate interview, Malawi Professional Boxing Board Vice General Secretary Mbachichi Nyirenda said he expects victory for Mtimaukanena come Friday.
“I don’t think Agness can lose against Muzeya. I have watched both boxers before and Mtimaukanena holds a slight advantage over Muzeya. The only thing that Agness needs to improve on is endurance because Muzeya is quick. However, bearing in mind the massive support given to Agness prior to the fight, I don’t think she can lose,” said Nyirenda.
On the same day, Zimbabwe’s Charles Manyuchi will face Jose Feria from Colombia in another Welter Weight title fight.
The fights are being promoted by Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotion
