Mtonga prays for Banda’s ‘good presidency’

Opening with prayer the first ever People’s Party convention, Director of Religious Affairs in the party, Reverend Malani Mtonga, who also doubles as a advisor to the President, has prayed to ‘good presidency’ for Her Excellency Joyce Banda.

In his brief prayer today at around 10:17am, Mtonga prayed that God continues to bless the party, in particular Banda for the next 12 months and ‘eternity’.

“You are a God of wonders. We thank you for giving us a leader who relies on you, who consults with you in all her actions, and we are thankful for the fruits of your responses to Malawi due to her respect of you,” he prayed, but in the local language Chichewa.

The Rev, who was also once the religious affairs adviser to the late Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president Bingu wa Mutharika, Mtonga said the PP family has met and pray for God’s guidance.

“Let this convention and all that happens today here to bear witness to your greatness,” he said.

Delegates to the convention total around 1,950 drawn from across the country. The dean of the diplomatic corps, Madam Thandiwe Dumbutchena from Zimbabwe is also in participation, leading members of the diplomatic community.

Other party officials, including former  president Bakili Muluzi of the United Democratic Front (UDF).
