Mulli demands K11bn pay from Malawi government

Leston Mulli—the omnipresent figure in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) —   is through his firms demanding K11 603 935 990.03 from government as compensation for destructions suffered during the July 20 2011 protests.

Mulli:  Wants K11 billion pay from government

The politically-connected businessperson’s claim comes after Mulli already received coupon bonds worth K3 048 557 708.71 from government in 2019 and now matured to be in hard cash today.

Payments were made in an out-of-court settlement that at the time private practice lawyer Bright Theu described as “dubious” and “questionable”.

Now at the expense of the taxpayer, Mulli is seeking further K11 billion compensations for the damages of his two companies Sunrise Pharmaceuticals and Chombe Foods Limited —companies under Mulli Brothers Holdings Limited (MBHL).

According to court documents,  Mulli through his lawyers Churchill & Norris of Tamando Chokhotho,  said after calculating as at present the sum has risen to K1 billion  after deducting K3 billion already paid “the balance is in the sum of K11 603 935  990.03.”

Mulli’s claim comes when government is even failing to collect K4.9 billion in loans that Mulli-owned companies obtained from the defunct State-controlled Malawi Savings Bank (MSB).

But the his lawyers  state: “ We are of the view that it is in the interest of the government  to settle thus matter expeditiously to avoid the sum rising to unmanageable  proportions.”

MBHL is the largest beneficiary of the K6 billion toxic loans government took over from MSB, a then wholly State-owned commercial bank, sold in July 2015 to FDH Financial Holdings Limited.

Mulli has strong links to President Peter Mutharika through their shared membership of Mulhakho wa Alhomwe heritage group.

This is pure theft by trickery. Mulli got his money, though dubiously. He has eaten the money and he is now coming in for the second kill. You will note that this is DPP plan. Mulli will get the K11billion. When DPP gets kicked out, he will fund its party activities with K1billion every year until next campaign period. We are dealing with Mafia here. Watch out!

We only hear of billions of kwachas being paid out to Mulli. Is this not an insurance matter? And was Mulli the only person affected? Why are others not compensated? Clearly these payments come on top of other billions that were paid to him a few years ago. Manyazzi mulibe?

Mulli is an economic saboteur harming the future of all Malawians. Money which government should be using to improve the lives of Malawians is being paid to Mulli an economic saboteur and a traitor. Mulli has run riot over Malawi since his when Bakili was President to this very day. Bingu was Mulli’s facilitator as is Peter Mutharika. These are crooks who need handcuffs and leg irons when driven to Zomba Central

Mark my words Mulli is not alone in this. DPP, AG and many others, possibly fdh and DPP/APM lawyers, are part of the scam.

Mulli should be compensated. Everybody knows what happened to his businesses and no one can question his being compensated. And if any, where was he when the demonstrators were damaging his businesses. That was the time to question the acts of demonstrators.

Mulli is so selfish. That kind of thievery should not be entertained at any cost. I hope the Govt doesn’t pay him this time. Why should we keep paying billions to one individual when there is no there is no medicine in our major hospitals? This bustard doesn’t think about anybody else but himself. He can go rot in hell.
