Muluzi back from hospital, case resumes October 8
Former President Bakili Muluzi of Malawi has returned home from a South Africa hospital where he went to receive treatment.
But Muluzi is scheduled to return again to South Africa to continue with his treatment next week.
Muluzi arrived on Wednesday through Chileka Airport. According to family sources, he has come to attend a wedding of a relation and would return to South Africa to continue getting treatment.
The former president underwent a major operation to correct four discs on his spinal column that were displaced, causing him excruciating pain.
But his corruption cases which were levelled against him under the Bingu wa Mutharika regime await him.
According to Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Senior Public Relation Officer, Egrita Ndala, a case which Muluzi is asked to explain h K1.7 billion deposited into his personal account would recommence on October 8.
“The court had set 8th October, 2012 for continuation of hearing [of Muluzi matter],” said Mdala.
Muluzi, who ruled Malawi from 1994 to 2004, denies any wrong-doing
The case was disrupted because of contradiction between the State and the corruption-busting body over the prosecution of the case.
