Female standard 8 Muslim pupils on Friday caused stir at St. Augustine 3 primary school when they refused to take off an Islamic gear during photo shooting for Malawi National Examination Board (Maneb) IDs.

School authorities sent back the students for refusing to take off the hijab, fueling tension at the school.

The female students immediately reported the matter to their parents who rushed to the school to intervene on the matter.

President for Mangochi Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) Symon Maziya said the school management wanted to capture the whole face of each student for easy identification during the examination.

He, however, said after consultations with Maneb officials and parents, all female students were allowed to be photographed with their hijabs on.

Am working with these hijab wearing women —- As a company law ;they remove the hijabs; wearing hair nets at work and they cooperate nicely –why should it be a problem removing a hijab for a purpose well known ??
