Mutharika confident to win 2019 elections: ‘You cannot bring down DPP govt’

President Peter Mutharika feels there is no viable alternative candidate to him for Malawi’s presidential election in 2019 and faulted his critics and political competitors of using faith organisations in trying to take control of his ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Mutharika: Wait for 2019 elections and you will weep

Mutharika said there are some people who would want to promote personal agenda under the guise of religious groupings by influencing others to demonstrate against his government.

“We will not allow anyone to take government through the back door,” said Mutharika.

“If anyone wants to rule this country they should wait for democratic elections in 2019. For now I will not accept lawlessness because that is not acceptable in any democratic environment,” he warned.

He also said his administration has instituted different forums where communities can seek support should they feel that their rights have been infringed by anyone.

Mutharika reminded Malawians of the achievements government has made in infrastructure development, citing the construction of Chapananga–Mwanza and Tsangano–Neno roads, and in health and education among other sectors.

On this note, Mutharika appealed for patience from Malawians, noting that development was a gradual process.

In the first place, You did NOT win the election in 2014 APM, that is why you burn ballot boxes blocking any re-count. That is also why the courts nullified that result in Msungamas constituency. You are just shameless thieves and there are too many examples to back this fact. Muluzi will always be the village idiot, having brought in your tribalistic brother, who failed dismally at the 1999 polls. Unfortunately you are practicing intellectual masturbation (kudzikwata ndi chala), believing that you will be able to rig the 2019 ballot. This will be impossible and can only result in civil… Read more »

Kukanika kuyankhula chifukwa chokalamba. Mpaka kutsokomola dzulo kumwanza kuli kutsamwa ndi chibwibwi a bububu anthuwa. Do not fool Malawians that it was PAC that brought the bills. PAC did the consultations and was just acting on behalf of the people of Malawi. The Malawi Law Commission is not the opposition Mr.Muthalika. You should not think we are fools.

Indeed no Democractic Elected Government should be derailed up until its tenure so who ever is worthy the salt need to prove through a ballot had it been that 50+1 was the yardstick the elected could have been a blessing to the voters so lets wait and see as God never abandon the choosen.I wish you well in all your undertakings as you deserve what you have done to the country
