Mutharika warns MCP’s Lunguzi to stop misleading people on Bwanje Dam
President Peter Mutharika has warned the opposition in Dedza to stop misleading people of on Bwanje Valley Dam construction site in the central region district.
The project, which started in June, 2016 is expected to end in June this year. It will help to irrigate part of the 800 hectares at Bwanje Irrigation Scheme and other new irrigation sites to be identified.
Speaking on Tuesday at Mtakataka Trading Centre in Dedza close to where the construction site of the project is, Mutharika said an opposition member – apparently referring to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) former legislator for the area, Juliana Lunguzi, should stop misleading people in the area by telling them that the projects has been constructed in the area because of the initiative of that opposition candidate.
“I want to tell you people of Dedza that it is the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) led government under my leadership that has constructed Bwanje Dam with an aim to transform lives of people from poverty to prosperity. This is the initiative of DPP led government and no one should mislead you,” Muthalika said.
“We understand that people here in Dedza like farming which is why my government decided to construct Bwanje dam so as to enable people grow crops thrice a year .This will help them produce surplus crops which will help them generate money through businesses as they will be selling the produce,” he added.
He therefore urged people to vote for DPP on Tuesday next week during the tripartite elections.
Speaking earlier, Traditional Authority Kamenyagwaza who spoke on behalf of Senior Chief Kachindamoto hailed Muthalika for constructing Bwanje dam in the area.
He said the dam among other things will transform lives of people in Dedza as well as the whole Malawi and will also help ease the problem of shortage of water in the district.
Once completed, Bwanje Valley Dam will be the largest in the country.
Koma Lunguzi ndi wovaya amwene ,Mutharika sakugona nayo tulo eti Lunguzi 21 May Boma
Mr president, you are a very educated person.do not allow politics carry you away. The former member of parliament made a request to government for the benefit of the people.it does not therefore matter which party was in government because the party does not do government jobs though it forms government.it is the tax of all citizens in Malawi that fund government projects.just campaign for your party to form the next government.
The President wants to pick a fight with Lunguzi over a dam????
Asandichimwitse mutharika mapwala ake

It takes good and sound leadership to determine the needs of the people. In this case, it is APM and DPP Government that has constructed Bwanje Irrigation Dam in Dedza.

He speaks as though the project is DPP funded. It is funded by Malawi government and all Lunguzi is doing is articulating what the people of the project area have desired and been told for ages since the seventies before Malawians even knew there was somebody known as Muntarika. It was Kamuzu’s dream
