Karonga United came into the game with high morale after beating Ntopwa Football Club 4-1 on Sunday at the same venue.

Lupakisho Mwakasinga scored the only goal for Savenda Chitipa United and Karonga United had no clue to unlock the visitors’ defence in a quest to level the score line.

The visitors managed to defend their slender lead up the last whistle and eventually collected maximum three points.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Karonga United Coach, Dan Dzimkambani, said in general his side played very well but missed chances.

“These guys are neighbours and they know each other. The Chitipa boys put my players out of the game. My players fought hard but it’s unfortunate that we have lost the game,” said Dzimkambani.

The winning coach, Alex Ngwira, said he told his boys to forget the Mtopwa result and fight hard to win the game.

“It’s good that we have collected maximum three points. It was a tense game but we are fortunate to have utilised the chance we created. I wish to ask supporters to realise that a team is bound to lose some games and they should not pile unnecessary pressure on the boys by rebuking them after a loss,” remarked Ngwira.

Karonga United welcome Be Forward Wanderers this Saturday at Karonga Stadium before the Nomads face Chitipa Savenda United at the same venue 24 hours later.

Dzimkambani says his side is ready for the Nomads and hopes to win the game.

With the win against Karonga United, Savenda Chitipa United are now on position 10 with 5 points from 5 games while Karonga United are on position 7 with 6 points from 5 games as well.
