Mwai Kumwenda nets more baskets as Vixens power past Fever

Australian based Malawian netball icon Mwai Kumwenda was at it again on Saturday as she inspired Melbourne Vixens to beat the West Coast Fever by 56-45 at Hisense Arena .

Kumwenda top scored for the match with 36 goals from 39 attempts at 92 per cent and Tegan Philip shot 20 from 26.

The win moves Melbourne (2W, 1L, 1D) into equal third on the ladder while the Fever remains winless.

In a telephone interview with Nyasa Times from Australia, Kumwenda said she was delighted because they have managed to bounce back from a disappointing draw last week.

“I so delighted because after last week’s draw we have managed to bounce back in style. Netting more baskets lam so happy and l hope to continue with this performance,” she said.

A fourth-quarter master class saw Kumwenda’s side blow the Fever off the court 17-11 as they turned their modest lead throughout the match into an emphatic 11-goal victory.

The Vixens have won 17 of last 19 matches against the Fever.

Their next match will be against  the Queensland Firebirds next week.
