- K2m prize for winners, and sponsor Vitumbiko Mumba promises ‘state of the art’ changing rooms at Rosedale Court
Mzimba Queens are the 2026 Northern Region Netball League champions after beating Malongo Sisters of Rumphi 52-42 in a fierce final.

The Queens led from the start, winning the first quarter 16-9 and the second 26-17. They were 38-32 ahead after three quarters before closing out the win. They took home K2 million, while the runners-up got K1.5 million.
Karonga Sisters finished third after beating Chitipa Home Sisters 47-46, winning K1 million. Chitipa Home Sisters collected K750,000 for fourth place.
The league has grown sharply, with 98 teams taking part this season, up from 38 last year.
League sponsor Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba, who presented the trophy on Sunday at Rosedale Court, pledged to build a changing room and an ablution block at the court. “Netball has always put Malawi on the map and we need to invest more in the sport,” he said.
Ken Phiri, Netball Association of Malawi general secretary for the north, praised Mumba as “a man of his words”.
He said the association would immediately engage Mzuzu City Council on the pledge.
