Mzuni student hit dead in road accident named: Sam Banda, minibus set ablaze

A minibus hit dead a first year Bachelor of Science (Education) Mzuzu University (Mzuni) student Wednesday, and the students in reaction set ablaze the minibus which hit him.

According to the school’s online tabloid, Mzuni Broadcasting Station, Sam D. Banda, was making his way to the campus on his bicycle when the minibus hit him.

 Nyasa Times understands the driver had lost control of the vehicle as far as application of brakes was concerned.

Banda was rushed to Mzuzu Central Hospital unconscious and was pronounced dead a few minutes later.

He had only spent eight days on campus, having come as a freshman for orientation a week earlier.

Despite police resistance, the students set ablaze the minibus.

President for the Student’s Union Wazamazama Katatu says the driver who is yet to be identified together with the conductor jumped out of the vehicle and fled.

Police spokesperson Martin Bwanali has confirmed the incident

Next time when you hit a student near their institution, you know what to do: Do not stop to attend to the accident victim. Your vehicle and even yourself could be in some serious trouble.
