Officials from Mzuzu City Council have ordered the closure of flood victims camps in the city.

The order comes barely a day before President Peter Mutharika visits them on Tuesday.

However ward councillors are up in arms against the decision.

Masasa ward councillor, where one of the camps is, said there was need for a detailed exit plan rather than making hasty decisions.

The El Nino powered rains flooded Mzuzu mostly swampy areas, killing six people and affecting 15000 people.

Mutharika is expected to visit the flood victims on Tuesday before proceeding to Nkhata Bay to visit another set of flood victims.
