Mzuzu lonely man, 70, found dead in bathroom: Malawi Police ask people to care of the elderly

Malawi Police in Mzuzu have advised residents to take care of their elderly relations following the death of a 70- year-old man who was found dead in his bathroom at Lupaso in the city.

Mzuzu Police Public Relations Officer, Martin Bwanali, said the deceased, Harrison Kamanga, who was staying alone, was reported missing on 24th November this year (2017).

Bwanali said the man was discovered dead Sunday morning by a nephew who came to check on him.

“On arrival at the old man’s house, the nephew was surprised to be greeted by unpleasant smell around the house. When he checked the bathroom, he found the deceased lying in decomposed state,” he said.

According to the police publicist, the scene was visited in company of a doctor from Mzuzu Central Hospital whose postmortem results indicated that the old man died due to hypoglycemia – a condition resulting from dangerously low levels of sugar in the blood.

Late Kamanga hailed from Matemanga Village in Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba District.
