Mzuzu man bribes Malawi police investigator, nabbed

Wanangwa Ngwira, who was being investigated for burglary and theft, has been arrested for bribery – Police in the northern region city say.

On May 26th, a woman reported of a robbery at Chiputula Police Unit involving her house in which a number of various items were stolen.

Acting on the woman’s complaint, detectives at the Police formation launched their investigations to apprehend the suspects.

One suspect was arrested on June 1, in connection to the case but one of his relations, Temwa Hara, 32, later approached the investigator with an K8 000 bribe to let go the case.

According to Mzuzu police publicist Martin Bwanali, the suspect was obtained statement under caution and later on formally charged. He was arrested on spot and seizure of the money made as well.

“He will appear in court soon to answer the charge of Official Corruption. The K8000 money will be used as evidence in the court of law,” said Bwanali.

Ngwira, 25, hails from Chamama Village, Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi district while Hara come from Chimodzimodzi Village of Traditional Authority Mthwalo in Mzimba district.
