Mzuzu teachers arrested for computer theft

Police in Mzuzu have arrested three teachers for allegedly stealing four computer sets worthy MK750,000 property of the Malawi Government.

The suspects are Tumbikani Msowoya of Traditional Authority Jalavikuwa, Mzimba District, Richard Gondwe 29, of Betele village, Traditional Authority Mwachenga, Rumphi District , Patrick Gondwe 28 of Kantafu village Traditional Authority Katumbi, Rumphi District , Edward Luhanga 20 of Chizoli village, Rumphi District and Peter Makawa 18 of Emanyaleni village, Traditional Authority, Mtwalo in Mzimba District .

Mzuzu Police Station Public Relations Sergeant Maurice Chapola confirmed the development saying the Headmaster for Katoto Secondary School filed a report of the missing computers which were in the computer laboratory at the school.

According Chapola efforts by the school authorities to trace the equipment proved futile.

Police investigations led to the arrest of two Katoto Secondary School Teachers, one from Chibavi CDSS, a businessman and an outgoing Form 4 student.

“It is alleged that the computers went missing between June and July this year,” the Police Publicist said.

Chapola said Police are also trying to probe how the student suspect got keys for the laboratory considering that they were kept in the staff room and that the laboratory is a restricted area.

Police are still hunting for more suspects in connection with the theft.
