Nandolo suspension at Blantyre City Council confirmed

The Ministry of Local Government has confirmed the suspension of Blantyre City Council (BCC) Chief Executive Officer, Ted Nandolo, for allegedly implementing salary increments without following required procedures.

Nandolo reportedly affected the salary increment for workers without government approval.

According to city bylaws, once councils make decisions on issues like salary increment, it is supposed to be approved by Local Government Finance Committee but Nandolo is alleged to have taken upon himself as CEO to affect the increment.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Mughlabase Mughogho, said each time a Council wants to implement salary increments, Local Government Finance Committee takes the proposed salaries to Ministry of Local Government for the minister to determine if the salaries are sustainable before approval.

“This is also stipulated in the Local Government Act but in the case of BCC, some procedures were skipped, hence its CEO’s suspension. He has been suspended for administrative investigations to be done,” she said.

Nandolo has been CEO for BCC since 2011.

APM pliz intervene if you want BCC to tick and reform otherwise Chanza is am autocrat who manages with a secret service. This is from reliable sources.

  7. The issue of salary increment is an easy one to effect implementation because the CEO was an interested party too.

  8. Are we people saying it should now be OK to bypass procedures? I think this suspension is deserved. How can a CEO worthy his salt firget to follow a mere procedure. Does that not speak volumes about our calible of CE and their capabilities? I guess there was somnething juicy for him in the whole scam, otherwise why kupupuluma chonchi?

  10. Is it okeyish to break the laws of the land, even when we personally deem it fit to? Where do we draw the lines on what is lawful or not?

    Malawians should really stop this business of supporting people who have clearly broken the law or disregard rules. If this guy can do it, then where do we get the moral right to criticise people who break the rules when they personally feel they are doing the right thing.

CEO,engineer,DA these are very corrupt.. eswap project,recruting relatives and promoting them .remove these Apple. but it seems lgvt is behind such behaviors.councillors are also corrupt. pls help the council. payments are made without vouchers so there is a link btwn DOF and one junior accounts clerk.dog too shl go .DPP help council is at problem period or else transfer me to my home city Zomba

  19. I guess he rubbed on the wrong shoulder of somebody at Capital Hill. Our CEO at ADL increases his salaries without the approval of the Board member but he is still in the office. He was also involved in a number of misprocuring malpractices even ODPP found him guilty but he is still in office why? Why is the Government being so selective in the administration of justice. Will corruption ended in this country when some public officers are being protected like that? I hope our President can do something against these corruption public officers. They are tainting our DPP Party.

  22. Leave him please , increasing salaries for poorly paid council worker is not an offence. The whole Pariament did increase salaries from top to bottom ,heads didn’t roll .

  23. Sometimes its lack of management skills.These CEO might be qualified but not able to read and understand the procedures. U will find that he didn’t know that u have to pass the ministry before implementation. Zoyamwira awa
