Four people are battling for life at the Zomba Central Hospital after a Blantyre bound bus belonging to National Bus Company overturned in Zomba in the wee hours of Sunday.
Police say no death had been recorded in the accident that also left 28 passengers with assorted degrees of injuries and were treated at Malosa Health Center.
Zomba Police spokesperson Andrew Mayawo said the accident happened around 03:00hrs at a place called Nsomba near Malosa Trading Centre in the district.
Mayawo said the bus, registration number BQ 1601, swerved before overturning after the driver failed to control it while trying to avoid hitting a suspected mentally-ill person.
“The accident happened around 3.00am when a pedestrian, suspected to be mentally ill, was crossing the road. The driver tried to avoid him but he failed to control the bus resulting in the overturning,” he said.
