NBM donates K10m to JB’s safe motherhood programme

Social responsibility! National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has donated MK10 million to President Joyce Banda’s safe motherhood programme.

The donation was presented to President Banda  at the official opening of the bank’s business centre and office complex in Blantyre.

NBM board chairperson professor Matthews Chikaonda, said the donation was meant to assist in the implementation of safe motherhood projects which the President said would be used to complete construction of a health centre at Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu district.

Banda launched Presidential Initiative on Maternal Health and Safe Motherhood among other things the initiative is going to build shelters in 130 health centres across the nation where expectant women will wait for their delivery time.

The shelters are intended to reduce the problem of women delivering on their way to hospitals because they are far away from their homes.
