New Red Lions Coach confident to beat the drop: Malawi TNM Super League

New Red Lions Coach Nelson Chirwa has expressed optimism and confidence that his side will recover from their blushes and survive relegation in the on going 2017-18 TNM Super League which is nearly to an end.

Chirwa said this after his side beat Premier Bet Wizard 2-0 to bag in three points in a league match played at the MDC Stadium on Saturday 18th November 2017.

“My main task is to save the team from the jaws of relegation and I am very much confident that the mission will be accomplished,” Chirwa who alongside Yohane Fulaye replaced axed Prichard Mwansa and Mike Kumanga
told reporters after Wizards game.

“I am happy with the performance of the boys based on today’s outcome, they really worked hard and I hope they will continue their hard working spirit because they know the importance of the remaining games” he said.

Benesi Kaisi and Matthews Simbeyi netted the two important goals that gave the Zomba based soldiers maximum three points.

Wizards Technical Director Peter Mponda hailed his charges for putting up a gallant fight despite losing.

“It was a good game, we played extremely well but it is just unfortunate that we failed to get a result” said Mponda.

Despite the win, Red Lions remain stuck on position 13 with 27 points from 25 games while Wizard are on 14th with 23 points from 27 games.

In other matches played on Saturday, Blue Eagles beat relegation candidates Blantyre United 1-0 thanks to a Stewart Mbunge lone strike.

Mafco FC played out a one-all draw against Civil Sporting Club at the Chitowe Stadium.

Fletcher Bandawe scored for the Civil Servants while Maurice Chiumia equalised for the Salima based soldiers Mafco FC.
