Chinese envoy: Stadium project moves to Blantyre

However, some inside sources have revealed to Nyasa Times that the 40,000-seater stadium will be built in Limbe near Soche Technical College.

Bingu’s decision

Minister of Transport and Public Infrastructure Sidik Mia justified the decesion that it pleased President Bingu wa Mutharika to have the stadium constructed in Blantyre because Lilongwe has already a number of projects from the Chinese Government.

Principle secretary in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Alex Mseka confirmed the development .

Football Association of Malawi president Walter Nyamilandu welcomed the development describing it as a timely move.

Nyamilandu said that the construction of the new stadium in Blantyre will bring more revenue as Kamuzu stadium’s capacity is restricted during international games due to security concerns.

Blantyre city has Kamuzu Stadium as the sole realible stadium after MDC stadium is in dilapidated state.

Currently Government has embarked on a rehabilitation project of Kamuzu stadium.

Floodlights are being installed at the soccer mecca,as well as the rehabilitation of the electrical score board.
