NFRA dumps off tendering process in favour of open maize market

National Food Reserve Agency  (NFRA) Chief Executive Officer Nasinuku Saukila has  announced that NFRA has dumps off tender process which were advertised in the media.

Saukila: Addressing a news conference

“We would like to make one statement today regarding the tender process. The analysis of the bids has strengthened our position that the public’s response was indeed overwhelming. It is clear that there are a lot of people that can readily supply the product. This has forced us to change our approach from the restricted approach to an open approach at a flat price of MK130 per kg,” said Saukila.

Saukila said the process will allow the cross section of the society to be accorded chance to supply the product with NFRA.

“Many deserving Malawians therefore be economically empowered through the decision,” said Saukila.

Saukila said there are no restrictions to the process apart from adherence to quality.

“Sellers will be required to present their stock to NFRA as has been the case in the past,” he told reporters

NFRA says currently they have 42,196 Metric Tons in stock.
