Ngumuya launches 13th album ‘202’

Malawi’s multi-lingual gospel artist Allan Ngumuya has added a 13th album dubbed “202” to his music career.

The self-styled icon named the album ‘202’ after his favourite Seventh Day Adventist hymn number 202(Yesu Tsogolereni).

The album has 11 tracks all blended in Chichewa, Yao, Tumbuka and English.

He launched the album at Comesa hall in Blantyre and gave away a free CD from Ngumuyas previous 12 albums.

The gospel artist will take the new 202 album for a relaunch  in the capital city, Lilongwe on 20th May 2012

The first CD was auctioned at MK120, 000 and it went to Maranantha private academy.

Ngumuya’s rise to stardom was in 1994 when he released a household album, Misozi, which saw him being voted best local artist in the MBC Entertainers of the year Award.

Follow up albums including Kodi Yesu Asamala, Umkonde Yesu, Tidzikumbukira, Mbiri Ya Mtanda and I’ve Got Hope established him as top gospel singer in the country.

Born in 1966, the Blantyre-born artist spent over five years in the US, where he recorded and performed at various venues.

In 2009, the artist obtained a master’s degree in professional communication from Purdue University in Fort Wayne Indiana (IPFW), US.

He fist attained an associate degree in video technology and broadcasting from Ivy Tech College in 2002 and then a bachelor of business administration from Davenport University.

Ngumuya came back to Malawi 2010 and plans to own a gospel television named Sunrise.—(Additional reporting by Green Muheya, Nyasa Times)
