Government has removed controversial Chimwemwe Banda from national broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, (MBC) and has redeployed her to Ministry of Local Government.
Banda was working as MBC’s Director of News and Programmes.
Recently Nyasa Times sourced a letter sent to President Joyce Banda by the MBC staff who paid gratitude to the new President over the sacking of Bright Malopa and the appointment of veteran broadcaster Dr Benson Tembo as his successor.
The MBC employees pledged to work with Tembo in ensuring that the state broadcaster becomes more professional.
They however, appealed to the President to swiftly move the other main players that have messed up the national broadcaster.
“Your Excellency removing Malopa alone is not a cure to MBC problems. Chimwemwe Banda is another person who has frustrated many members of staff to perform in their respective jobs. As a woman rights activist Madame President, you may recall how Chimwemwe Banda called a fellow woman ‘ugly’ last year,” says the letter in part.
The staff say that Chimwemwe Banda has been a main contributing factor to MBC problems as she normally brain washing MBC top bosses.
“She was the woman who confused former Television Malawi Director General Bishop Kenson M’bwana and thereafter was the woman behind all the mess by former Director General Bright Malopa,” says the appeal letter.
The staff say that unless the new MBC Director General is surrounded by fresh sober minds that are committed to do their job professionally and not politicking as per observed by the State President.
“We humbly request the urgent removal of Chimwemwe Banda, Timpunza Mwansambo, Mzati Nkolokosa, Mgeme Kalilani, Steven Maseya and Phillip Business,” the letter says.
The people have also included Fellistus Chikusilo Director of Finance whom they accuse to have siphoned millions of MBC funds together with Malopa and Chimwemwe Banda into their personal coffers.
Nyasa Times has also learnt that ordered that “ Reach Out and Touch” programmed should be removed out of MBC Schedule.
He says the programme does not fall within the legal mandate of the organisation.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
