Ngwembe wins PP central region elections unopposed

Malawi’s governing People’s Party (PP) Provincial Chairman for the Centre, Kizito Ngwembe, on Wednesday  sailed through unopposed for the post in provincial (regional) held  to choose the party’s new leadership held at Natural Resources College in Lilongwe.

Ngwembe is a former lawmaker of Malawi Congress Party and one of the founding PP members.

The elections witnessed by number of private media journalists and observers, were a very open and democratic.

Former DPP deputy regional governor David Kambalame is first vice, UDF former regional governor Samson Mazengera is second deputy chair.

The polls were nearly derailed after the director of women Catherine Banda lost to Edith Ntunga, who was a favourite for the powers-that- be. However, deputy secretary general Harry Mkandawire said the party needed to respect the will of the people.
