Nigerian star 2Face urges Malawians to support local artists
Nigerian Afro Beat/ Hip-Hop star 2Face Idibia has called up on Malawians to support the local talent if the country’s artists are to rise above the local realm and hit the international waves.
2Face, who had a worse experience of his career on Saturday when he performed for a handful crowd at BAT ground, has since revealed desire to work with some of the local musicians.
Speaking to journalists, the Nigerian multi-award winner, stressed the need for the country to invest much in the local talent, which he said deserves world’s recognition.
2Face said: “your artists need to be happy, make them happy. They need support of every citizen if they are to make it big. It is only through such support that they will be able to make it on the international scene”.
His appeal is just a repeat of what his countrymen and fellow artist, P Square said in March this year when the duo performed in Lilongwe at Africa Movie Awards nominations.
However, 2face who once performed in Malawi at Limbe Country Club way back in 2008 had no simple words for those who venture to music business and expect to make it through overnight, arguing “Music is serious business that needs to be taken seriously”.
He said: “If you get into music just for fame and fortune then you must have forget it. Music is serious business. It demands a lot; talk of production, promotion and videos making, therefore, expect to invest more if you are to earn more.
“But if you are in music for the love of it; then don’t complain if you don’t become a star; just be what you are. If you are in for fame and fortune, then pursuit it until you get”.
The Nigerian artist, then revealed will collaborate with more Malawian artists in his future productions to help them earn international exposure.
“I am working on my next album to be out before year end. I have collaborated with T-Pain in among other artists. But my focus is to work with more Malawians artists in my future work”.
On the Saturday, there was poor patronage, as only a handful of people turned up for the show.
2Face however, was not deterred from delivering his promised fireworks, as he labored to enjoy the feeling.
Among those curtain-raised his show include Ndefeyo Entertainment’s duo of Trumel and Piksy; Blasto, Maskal, Dikamawoko among others.
2face, two times Music of Black Origin (MOBO) winner, performance was dubbed Live Concert One SADC tour.
