Nkutu inspires Moyale to victory over Azam: Malawi TNM Super League

Moyale Barracks raider Deus Nkutu on Sunday scored a vital goal to give his side a sweet victory in a tight TNM Super League match played at Balaka Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Nkutu who was again on target Saturday afternoon when his side beat Blantyre United 2-0 at Kalulu Stadium on Saturday scored the only goal of the match in the 7th minute.

Both sides failed to tick in the process failing to showcase the supporter’s excellent play and the match needed entertainment.

Azam Tigers squandered a lot of scoring opportunities upfront due to lack of composure among its strikers.

Despite handing the visiting Moyale an early lead, Azam showed a little composure and resilience particularly at the back where they featured Bonda Mpinganjira and Stanley Sanudi who was outstanding.

Sanudi’s hard work and composure managed to bear fruits as he was voted man of the match at the end of the regulation time.

Nkutu who looked fierce whenever in possession nearly hit the second in the 52nd minute but his brilliant shot from close range was well served by Azam goalkeeper Nenani Juwawo.

Azam managed to respond and also made a couple of fast substitution but it paid no dividends.

Sanudi produced a thunderous 25 meter drive from a free kick but Moyale keeper was steady enough to serve the ball for a corner kick.

Bernard Harawa who came in as a substitute for Azam blew off two clear scoring opportunities in the 65th minute and in the last minute of the added time.

When everyone thought Harawa would grab an equalizer, he surprisingly shoot straight into the hands of the keeper Juwawo and over the bar respectively.

In a post-match interview with Nyasa Times, Tigers assistant coach Chikaiko Bridge could not hide his disappointment towards his strikers.

“We managed to create a number of scoring opportunities but our strikers were too wasteful”
said Bridge.

“We seriously need to work on finishing once we go back to the drawing board,” he added.

His opposite number Nicolus Mhango was delighted with the victory.

“I am delighted that we have managed to collect maximum points today and yesterday and these two wins will move us closer to the top of the log table” he said.
Meanwhile, Mhango says his target is to win this season’s TNM Super League.

“Like any other team competing, it is my wish to win the title this season” Mhango said.

Moyale face rookies Karonga United on Saturday next week according to a fixture released by Super League of Malawi (Sulom).
