Nomads beat Silver, Escom ubeaten run ends

Diverson Chilemba scored for Mighty Wanderers to spoil Dan Dzinkambani’s return as Silver Strikers coach in what was described as the game of the weekend at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.

Dzinkambani, who was reinstated as the central bankers coach earlier this week by the executive committee, was looking for a perfect return but an outing to the southern region and a date with the Nomads was tricky.

Nomads,  who were buoyed by their 2 – 1 demolition of traditional rivals Bullets FC last weekend, struggled a bit in midfield with the absence of kingpin Nafe Msasa and gave Silver enough room to penetrate and created several goal scoring opportunities through Jester Mulima, captain Tony Chitsulo and Asedi Ayami.

They enjoyed the early exchanges but had nothing to show for it until Chilemba struck to put the contest to bed in the first half following Silver Strikers defenders failure to clear the lines.

'Nyerere dance': Nomads players celebrate deserved win

Frank Banda, Ayami and Chitsulo laboured in vain to get an equaliser with the Lali Lubani Road boys playing a disciplined game at the back and trading cautiously when attacking through Innocent Jere and Chilemba.

The second half produced little to write home about with the blues holding on to their lead on their way to bagging maximum points.

Franco Ndawa, Wanderers coach, was excited with the victory and says the team will build on their two consecutive wins to fight for honours this season.

“It’s a satisfying result and we hope the guys will keep up the good work and turn tables” he said.

His counterpart Dzinkambani told Nyasa Times that it was not a good return for him but says the team could soon rediscover their best form.

“I would have loved to start off positively but we failed to use the good scoring opportunities we had to our advantage, but all is not lost,” Dzinkambani said.

This result leaves the central bankers with 5 points from 6 games having lost thrice, drawn twice and won once.

On the other hand, Mighty Nomads are flying high with 11 points from the same number of games having won thrice, drawn twice and lost once.

Elsewhere, defending champions and league leaders Escom United suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of the victory starved Moyale in Mzuzu.

Wild Nkuliwa was responsible for  deservedly stopping the electricians in their tracks with the game’s only goal.

TNM Super league classified results for Saturday:
Mighty Wanderers 1 Silver Strikers 0
Moyale 1 Escom 0
Epac 2 Civo United 4
Red Lions 1 Blue Eagles 1
Azam Tigers 0 Mafco 0.
