Nomads brace for toughest test of the season in Champions League opener

Mighty Wanderers face arguably their biggest test of the season Sunday afternoon as they host Tanzanian giants Simba Sporting Club in the first leg of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League first preliminary round at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The Nomads go into the tie as underdogs against a Simba side that has already demonstrated its continental pedigree, though they will be hoping home advantage, a point to prove, and the tactical input of Patrick Mabedi can tilt the contest in their favour.

The fixture comes at a turbulent time for Wanderers, with the Blantyre-based giants suspending head coach Bob Mpinganjira immediately following their 2-1 defeat to Ekhaya FC in last Sunday’s Airtel Top 8 final at the same venue.
