Nsanje District Council rejects DC removal

A full council meeting in Nsanje has agreed to veto central government decision to remove district commissioner Dr. Medson Matchaya.
Ward councillors, traditional leaders and members of parliament who sit on the council meeting have since agreed to write the ministry of Local Government  to rescind its decisions  of removing Dr Medson Matchaya as the district commissioner.
Recently, Media was awash with reports that the Ministry has transferred some DCs including Nsanje DC.
According to members of the council, the decision by the Local Government, threatens acceleration of development and it is against the resolution by the Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA) that no controlling officer of a council shall be transferred or deployed to a council without the consent of the council as such an action will be rejected.
Former Deputy Minister and Councilor for Dinde ward Bonface Chimpokosera said the district has registered positive things during Matchaya leadership hence they will not accept him to go anywhere.
Senior Chief Chimombo said President Lazarus Chakwera assured the Chiefs during Nsanje Chiefs visit to State House that the DC will remain as requested by the chiefs after noticing his hardworking sprit.
Dr. Medson Matchaya has been redeployed to the Ministry of Healthy.
United Democratic Front Ruo Ward Councillor Marko Molotali  was against Matchaya’s redeployment; arguing most developments that stalled for a long time have been completed during Matchaya’s reign
Meanwhile, Senior Chief Chimombo said he was shocked with news of Matchaya’s redeployment.
“During the recent meeting of Nsanje Chiefs and President Dr LazarusChakwera, the president assured us that the Nsanje District Commissioner would not be redeployed,” the chief claimed.
He added that before Matchaya, the district was embroiled in massive corruption.
However, another DPP Councillor for Mlonda Ward, Cassam Useni Ngwali felt it was too early for the members to debate this without official confirmation from the Ministry of Local Government.
Reacting to the issue, Nsanje District Council Chairperson Rose Makiyi said the members have agreed to write to government expressing their dissatisfaction on Matchaya’s redeployment.
But drama ensued later when a group of women stormed the Council campus chanting songs of protest against the DC’s transfer.
Authorities at the Local Government Ministry said the redeployment of the DC’s was meant to revamp work.

  1. Was Dr Matchaya employed to work for Nsanje District Council only? I believe he can be deployed to any District Council in Malawi where his services are required. If he has been a performer in Nsanje then let him go and do the same at his new station so that it also benefits from his leadership. The Government deploys its officers as need arises and it deployed Dr Matchaya to Nsanje in the first instance. His replacement may turn out to be even a better performer!

  2. Why is he the only one protesting out of the DC’s that have been demoted. Matchaya is a master plunder and why you want to cling there is cover your steps basi. You staged the whole thing, invited a group of women to your house, use council money to dine with them so that on that very day of full council they make noise for you. What a shame ! Your employer has ordered you, you obey. Why did you not protest when you were being promoted to DC. You are better placed as a medical person not otherwise, so stop wasting our time we need to find you in a ward at queen’s.

  3. Kuti zinveke bwanji ? Why is he the only one protesting ? We know you staged those protesters. What and why are you afriad of leaving to your profession. Leave professions to do they jobs. Inu get out

  4. Strange and sometimes you gang up to protect the big man knowing his absence means exposure of all the dirty fingerprints you made with your hands… and ery strange the women were ready to demonstrate against the decision with a cloth already made…

  5. Typical cheap politics of Dr Matchaya. the time he was rejected by the District Health Office staff, he used the same strategy to threaten DPP government not to transfer him out of the District. All these women seen on the picture are from one village given as little as 10000 to stage that…

Local Government shouldn’t take the nonsense from these useless cadets backing their fellow.

As long as its not demotion let him go help the patients. By the way he once won best doctor award during DPP reign. We are assured QEENs will benefit

  6. Ndekuti Pali cifukwa . Bwanji psafufiza cifukwa cake, nao okavinawo sakudziwa zikucotika under ground than lulandila ma pin pin yosatiso ugulila suga.mxiiii

  7. Nsanje guys are crazy. They are the ones who were chasing this guy, their own homeboy. Now they want him. Government should not be dictated on him

  8. Vuto lomwe lilipo pa Nsanje District Council njakuti ma Junior officers akuchita utambwali/ukathyali kwambiri, zomwe zikumapanga tarnish image ya ma top officials, and ma top officials akumapanga neglect their duties pomabakira nonsense from junior officers that’s why mbiri zawo zili zoipa. Zinazo from experience sindinganene paja kuli njema kunjaku.

  9. Matchaya can come so low and use 2 TAs, 3 councillors, 1 MP and villlagers to help him fight his stay…. Very unfortunate.

  10. Shame to Matchaya!
Last week he caaried 7 cows to capital hill just to have his transfer rescinded, he was rejected.
He went to MCP regional offices so that the party should him stay, it failed also.
He was at madam Mia’s house so that as a minister she should fight for his stay…goofed again.
And this is the last option which he thinks will work: mobilsed 2 TAs (Chimombo & Malemia), 1 MP (Madevana) 3 councillors and community members just to help fight for his stay in Nsanje… But WHY???
He is a shame to the lower shire. Lord save Nsanje

  11. This was NOT full council meeting:
Out of total 5 MPs only 1 was available.
Out of 10 councillors, only 3 attended the meeting.
Out of 9 TAs only 4 were present.
    No sector heads,
No reps for CSOs, business, faith, youth as requirement
And holding it on Saturday… WHY?
Seriously something is terribly wrong at Nsanje District Council, how can the whole DC use some council members like this????
Malawi govt, what do you make out of such officers entrusted as DCs?
Honestly Matchaya deserve suspension or dismisal and normalize operations at Nsanje Council.
